Sunday sketches

These are some sketches I did during church. My church is a noisy place that has praise and worship (music) that lasts for hours. I think it's a great environment to draw.

Illustration Friday - Tattoo

Here's today's illo friday dealeo... tattoo.
I sketched out a more full illustration concept, but I had waaaay too much work to do today so I only did half of it. I had to do like 80 bazillion illustrations for a client in the UK.

Here's the sketch-- I am hoping to add the girl eventually.
This is also a departure from my usual heavy black line technique. I thought I'd try to construct the whole thing in illustrator with the pen tool, etc, whereas I usually do a black line drawing on paper, and scan it and vectorize it (with Adobe Streamline) and edit and go from there.

Illustration Friday - Tea

Here's this week's Illustration Friday - TEA.
My wife drinks a lot of tea because she's pregnant now, and coffee tastes yucky to her now (!!!) Goofy hormones. The thought of losing my taste for coffee is unimaginable to me. In fact, I needs me some coffee right now. mmmmm... coffee.
anyway,
I went to a Tea cafe in Pittsburgh a week or two ago, and got some funky herbal tea for her. That's what inspired this illo. It just had this kind of vibe to it. (and my wife is not asian)

rut

MAN I'm in a creative rut. I have tons of sketches to do and I am drawing like stinky poo poo.
Sometimes when that happens it helps me to just bust out something totally random to sort of prime the pump.
Here are a few sketches that just sort of leaped out of my pencil. It's nice to have a blog because I miss the old days of having a sketchbook that I carry around. When you're a student, or spend a lot of time in transit or listening to lectures or something, sketchbooks are just great.


But for the last 10 years or so, I have had sketchbooks that barely see the light of day. I used to fill them up in record time with goofy doodles and stuff during class, etc. Nowadays, I spend most of my day at my drawing table or in front of a computer, so it makes more sense to publish sketches to a blog.
I'm going to consider this blog my virtual sketchbook. My sketch dump.
